Run with a friend or group it's the best way to stick to it

The masthead for Consumer Reports used to feature a quote that applies particularly well to runners and others who are known for goal-oriented behavior. It said, "This time, like all times, is a good one if we but know what to do with it." This quote, which nudges us to look for the best course in any situation, amounts to brilliant advice for runners during the winter holidays.

While the common temptation at this time of year is to abandon regular training even as we lament over the trappings of the season (food, parties, travel and food), the savvy runner will discover ways to maintain fitness and greet 2005 with a head start on those weight-loss resolutions.
