Hi everyone.
I purchased a new laptop that came with Vista. So I downloaded RunCoach for Vista. It did not take me very long to determine that Vista is a piece of junk. It is extremely slow, which appears to be from running at 100% CPU. So I downloaded Linux, which is much better when it comes to speed. My main problem is using or downloading programs that I already have. RunCoach (Vista) falls in that category. To circumvent this problem I have both Operating Systems that I can select at the time of boot up. The sooner that I can get rid of Vista the better. Has anybody tried to use Vista with RunCoach?

    Eric,

I agree with you about Vista but Windows 7 is looking promising.

I have used RunCoach with both Linux and Vista. It seems to work fine with both. To get it working on Linux you will need to download and install 'Wine'. This is a Linux package that enables you to run Windows programs on Linux (sometimes even faster than Windows).

I have Linux installed on most family computers around the place as it is easy to use, faster, and gets less viruses. For work I mostly use Vista and XP.

    Cheers

    Hi Paul.
When I use "wine" I get "garbled" characters in the RunCoach fields. Do you have any thoughts of what I should try?

    Hi Eric,

Great that you are using Linux.

I have only tried it on the latest development release of Wine. Currently 1.1.23 not the public release 1.01

The development release of Wine seems quite stable to me and works with almost all Windows programs I try. Depending on your Linux version you can download it from here

    http://www.winehq.org/download/

I use Ubuntu mostly so I just add it to the repository and updates etc are handled automatically.

Let me know how it turns out.

    Cheers

Linux is the basic platform with what OSX is based upon, it is
lightweight and quick.
. The issue comes if you are not au fait with using the command shell, unlike windows based systems not everything can be done using a GUI interface.
